Do you ever wonder how your favorite retailer’s display is transformed from so-so to simply stunning? What about those chic, perfectly polished mannequins? Ever since our styling division ramped up its services, we’ve added a variety of business services, including a dream team of visual merchandisers. We think it’s time to unveil the curtain and give you a glimpse of what its like to walk a mile in our visual merchandiser’s shoes. The most unique part about being a visual merchandiser is that no project is ever the same, which is why creativity and out-of-the-box thinking is crucial. After countless brainstorming sessions and late-nights spent curating inspiration boards, establishing a budget and measuring out the space to a “T”, it’s time for the merchandiser to dive-in and bring the displays to life, make an impact on the consumer, draw shoppers into the space and set the overall mood.
Take the window display above for example. These earth-toned, carefully crafted cutouts suspended from the ceiling make for an enticing and welcoming store window {without taking away from the store’s products}!
In addition to putting creativity and craftsman skills to the test through window displays, visual merchandisers also help retailers move merchandise around the store to keep the inventory appearing fresh. For example, customers may not have noticed the rack of scarves hanging on the back wall, but when a merchandiser swoops in and moves them to front of the store, {uniquely styled on a table, of course} they become hard for shoppers NOT to notice them.
If you ask a merchandiser, there is so much more to dressing mannequins than putting outfits on them. It is the job of the visual merchandiser to create a story with them through color, texture and most importantly, accessories. After all, a necklace hanging on a store fixture may go unnoticed by shoppers, but when put on display with a killer dress and blazer, the item can be eye-catching to the consumer!
