Now, sit back and enjoy our exclusive Q&A with this design guru! Q: Tell us about design firm, LiLu Interiors. LiLu is a great group of talented interior designers who I lead in helping our clients create homes that support their lives and express their unique styles.
Q: What led you to the interior design industry? As a child, I spent time sketching various rooms in our home in different styles. Only I didn’t know what an interior designer was. The only role model I had that did something similar was Rhoda from the Mary Tyler Moore show. So when I was asked in 8th grade to explore a career, I interviewed a display designer from Daytons. Once I discovered interior design was a career, a few years later, I was sold.
Q: What is your favorite aspect or rewarding part of owning your own business? I enjoy having the ability to create a culture that aligns with my values, where gratitude is part of the work environment and where everyone works collaboratively and are valued for the talents they add to the mix.
Q: Where do you turn for design inspiration? I mainly find inspiration in my clients, understanding who they are and how they want their life to look, feel and function. How our designs can transform their experience of home and create just the exact experiences they would love to have. In addition, I find inspiration everywhere. I live design…seeing color and pattern in nature, the built environment, in others work, art, architecture, fashion. I enjoy looking at other creative fields and thinking about how the principles and approach they used can be applied to interior design.
Q: How would you describe your personal style? I love easy style, combining unexpected pieces and impactful, unique color combos.
Q: What adds pep to your step? It’s a long list. Having a positive impact on someone else’s life is at the top of my list. From creating a home or office that supports someone in changing their life to mentoring a student or volunteering with kids, it all feeds my soul. Taking a walk around the lake or visiting a gallery, dancing, playing music, learning something new and working on any creative project also makes my heart sing.
Q: What do you never leave the house without? A statement necklace, my cell phone and a positive attitude.
Q: How do you spend your Saturdays? Saturdays are for family, running to lessons, hanging out at the farmers market, shopping, working on projects together. Whatever we do, we do it together.
Q: What have you learned about yourself and life, thus far? Life is short so you should have fun, take risks, do what you want and surround yourself with soul-supporting beauty.
