You are your own brand.

Big companies understand the importance of brands. Today, for good or for bad, you are your own brand. It's important to think about how you are representing your brand in all aspects of your life. We can learn a lot from the big brands that have built a great reputation and strong customer loyalty. Regardless of age, regardless of position, regardless of the business we happen to be in, all of us need to understand the importance of branding. We are CEOs of our own brands. In my opinion, there are a few  critical aspects to a successful personal brand. Be remarkable.

You need to be an expert in your area. Seth Godin says “Chose your job and then be the one that does it.” Your image should convey that you are an expert in your field and it should leave a lasting impression.

Be Creative.

What makes you different from your competition? Clearly define that in a creative way that will support your brand.

Be Authentic.

Stay true to your values. If you can spot a fraud from a mile away so can your customers or clients. Build your brand to be in line with your life. You can separate work from personal life but you can’t separate your brand from who you are as a person.

Be Consistent.

The way you communicate with others should exemplify how you want to be perceived. If you are trying to demonstrate your expertise in business, signing your emails with smiley faces or multiple exclamation points is probably a bad idea. With the ever-growing amount of information about you that is available online, be sure that what you put online is also consistent with your brand. The brand you convey will be read by those who are evaluating your expertise.
